I've noticed they use a lot of pics and post recipes and do not write much on their blog. So here goes trying that (although) I still enjoy writing from time to time...
Here's some pics from our recent chi town vacation (can I really call it that? I want a REAL vaca soon!)

Giordanos stuffed crust! I'm not sure why I haven't watched it before now, except I wanted to make sure I was able to stay awake to watch it. There was nothing fun on TV tonight and decided tonight was the night to watch the newest version...

I remember going to the movie theatre to watch the original Steel Magnolias movie staring Julia Roberts and Sally Field. I went with my mom and I am pretty sure I was a teenager or maybe even a pre-teen. I don't think my dad or brother went with us, so it was a girls movie date. I'm pretty sure I didn't process this at the time, but this movie made me realize how amazing my mom is! I realized that my mom was very similar to the character, M'Lynn, played by Sally Field - right down to the similar haircut (sorry mom, kinda true...). But what was the most similar was how much love M'Lynn had for her daughter, Shelby. After watching that movie, I knew without a shadow of a doubt, my mom would react exactly the same if I ever needed a transplant or went into a coma. But what I really realized was how deep, complex, and amazing the bond is between a mother and daughter. I felt so close to my mom after watching the movie. Like I said, at the time, I was unable to process why I felt this, just knew I did.

Since then, I have seen the live play version of this movie, re-watched the original movie over and over, and then watched the re-make with Queen Latifah, Phylcia Rashad, etc... Every time I watch it, it just makes me appreciate my mom more and more.

I also recall just how my mom and I bonded over the movie - we told everyone how good it was - how we were bawling one minute and crying laughing the next. It's just such a great ladies movie - makes you appreciate your girlfriends and realize how blessed you are for your mother. I honestly don't know what I would do with out my mom - I love and appreciate her so much! I know there is nothing she wouldn't do for me
I love them!
Ever since Joe and I started dating, I have always looked forward to Saturdays. I love that I can sleep in, if I want. Or I can take a small nap (I save the big ones for Sundays, maybe I will write about that in another post.) I also love that I usually can clean, do laundry, or at least pick some things up during the mornings. I also LOVE that my husband also has Saturdays off. However, he usually has projects he works on - whether it be art or podcasting, but it leaves me to watching awesome Saturday TV. And during the summer - Saturday afternoons are THE BEST! My friends come over and we swim in my apartment complex's pool. It's MY FAVORITE! CANNOT WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN THIS SUMMER!

But what I love most about Saturdays is Saturday night! I ALWAYS do something I think is fun. It's usually date night, which is my most favorite of times! Joe and I usually find a fun place to eat - we carefully think about it - what have we had recently, what are we craving, is it a NU game, etc... and base our decision off of that. We also look at what we want to do afterwards. Not gonna lie, most of the time, some sort of movie is involved. That's my most favorite of dates. But I also love live theater, so if it's not the movies, we may be at the Omaha Community Playhouse or the Shelterbelt Theater. (P.S. - I think we need to check out the Bellevue Little Theater soon!) If we have gone out a lot, some times, Joey P. and I just rent a Red Box movie, get take out (not gonna lie, Casey's Pizza is one of our faves!)

We presently have a new goal of trying out all the mom and pop restaurants in Bellevue. Tonight, we went to 'That's Amore'. I had read this place was looking for new owners and might be closed. But the open sign was on it tonight. I felt a little bad - there was only one gal serving the entire place. It wasn't busy, but would have benefitted from two peeps. Joe ordered pizza and I got the stuffed shells. Mine came with a salad, which I ordered with ranch. The ranch was FREAKING AMAZING. My salad was fine. It said it came with tomatoes, and I got one diced piece of one. Not a deal breaker though. My stuffed shells I ordered with both alfredo and marinara - so it came as half and half - I thought it would be mixed, but I was able to mix it. There was way more sauce than needed to be. The shells were good though. Joe's pizza was just 'eh'. Needed more sauce, but in the end, doubt we will order that again. We do like supporting local business, so we might be back again if they remain open.

As we were looking for 'That's Amore' - we saw another new, mom and pop restaurant - Mi Casa - which we will definitely be trying out next! Mexican, I think, is one of our most faves!

After dinner tonight we went and saw GI Joe - don't think I need to review it, other than to say, I got pretty restless after Channing Tatum was no longer on screen. ;-)
I have done some awesome things - Beer Tasting Bingo (won a beer and a beer stein!), wine festival, saw Argo (thought it was done so well - it was great!), Gospel on the Green, and went to Shelterskelter at the Shelterbelt Theatre (seriously love this place, small, intimate black box theatre, can bring booze in, cheap, and something different to do - to Shelterbelt with Love starts the weekend of my BDay - might want to get a group together to do this ;-)

My husband and I have always dedicated Saturday Nights to "Date Night" - ever since the very beginning of our relationship. We haven't always been able to spend Saturday nights together, but it is a rare occasion that we don't. We usually go out, but sometimes will just get a pizza and rent a movie. However, since we have been married, we usually go out, because we tend to eat at home every other night of the week.

Today, my fabulous husband helped his aunt move, while I stayed home and didn't do much. ;-) When he got home, he asked if we could just relax at home tonight, which I totally agreed to - I was already relaxing and thought it sounded great to continue to. However, we wanted to get dinner and decided on chinese. I am not the biggest chinese fan, so when I say that I am in the mood for it, Joe usually goes with it. I also wanted to go to the Dollar Tree store beforehand. I had been on Pinterest earlier in the day and came across a few craft projects I wanted to try out. One was making an ornament wreath and they suggested going there for cheap, nice ornaments. Neither of us had been there before and now know we will go there to get any wrapping/gift bags we may need for any occasion. :-)

After we were done, we went home to watch the "Five Year Engagement" that I had rented from the Red Box. We both got into comfy clothes and found our spot on the couch. We watched the movie and really enjoyed just vegging on the couch and being entertained by the movie.

As much as I love going out to the movies/theatre, hanging out with friends and family, going to fun restaurants, etc... every once and a while, I am so appreciative to just relax at home with my husband.

P.S. I also made this for a work potluck...

Although there was another night Husker game, that really didn't influence my choice to go out last night. I have been wanting to see the movie Pitch Perfect ever since I saw the trailer for it! And the choice of movies out lately has been slim pickings, so I was itching to see a good one! My husband and I had free passes to a Marcus theatre, and that is how we made our choice on which theatre to go to. Before the movie, we decided to try out the Bellevue mom and pop restaurant, Lil Burro. It was just okay, not the greatest, but not horrible - they had good chips and salsa. I did feel bad for Eric, who joined us, his steak fajitas were so over cooked it was like beef jerky!

Then we headed off to the movie - Eric chose not to go, whatevs, he missed out. ;-) Our theatre was actually packed for it being shown during a Husker game. We ended up sitting in the front row of the stadium seating. I thought I would hate it, but the movie was so good, it didn't bother me at all.

The movie is about two rival a cappella groups - The Bellas (all girl group that likes to sing the same songs for each competition) and the Treble Makers (all boy group who changes up their music each time). There are several mishaps that happen along the way to take them to the final competition. It was such a fun movie! It did not disappoint at all! Here are some of my pros and cons for the movie...

Pros:

Loved the cast - each character was so funny

The music was super fun

The plot was good, which made the movie continue on with out dragging in any points

I sometimes just need to go to a movie where I don't have to think too hard and just be entertained for a two hours

although I don't think they meant this to be a pro, but I secretly LOVED the song, 'I saw the Sign' by Ace of Base and this song was featured

I now have to go watch the Breakfast Club

Cons:

the two guy roommates looked too much a like, I had trouble telling them apart

there was a pretty gross scene in the middle - it was hilarious, but made me gag at the same time

the fact that they call Fat Amy Fat Amy - dudes, you are in college, that seems more like a junior high thing to do

i don't have any more cons :-)

I would go see this movie again, it was so fun. I loved it!

Next week - Wine Festival and Argo!

I also want to see 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' - but I don't think it is playing here... boo.

Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573964582215612698.post-75405345345933026732012-09-30T13:40:00.000-07:002012-09-30T13:40:41.942-07:00Husker Season... (well sorta, not really...)I love Husker season! I really do. But not for the reasons most do. I love that when the Huskers are playing and it is televised - everyone is either at a sports bar or at home watching the game. Which means the places I enjoy going to are usually almost empty. This season has proven to be just as true as seasons in the past - my husband and I went to lunch at the Upstream downtown and there was hardly anyone there (even though they did have the game on in the bar area upstairs!), then we went to get ice cream at the best ice cream store ever, Ted and Wally's, and there was NO LINE. I have gone there during a snow storm and had to wait in line, but not that day. We have also gone to the movies - same thing - no lines, no waiting, and had the theatre almost all to ourselves. It's fabulous!

So needless to say, I like to go out and about during the games. I was very happy this week when I found out that the game was at night. This meant I could go to my absolute favorite restaurant - Rivera's! This place is so good, and unfortunately the Omaha World Herald agrees with me. I say unfortunately is because ever since the OWH ran not one, but two rave reviews about Rivera's you can't get a seat at the place without waiting. So my favorite secret spot is no longer secret. But you don't have to wait on game nights! In the past, Rivera's had been known to close early on Husker game days, due to no customers, but tonight we (Joe, Eric, and I) arrived fifteen minutes after kick off and most of the tables were filled. AND they had the game on as well! But we did get seated right away. Oh man, Rivera's - I have missed you!

Here are just some of the reason why I love Rivera's. (There are so many!)

The food! Their menu is different than other mexican restaurants - it more authentic and just plain good! I have tried quite a few of their dishes, but I definitely have my faves - My very favorite is the Shrimp Sonora Wrap - spinach, black beans and it has so much shrimp in it that I usually run out of tortilla before I run out of shrimp! And the sauce is AMAZING! I also love the lobster enchiladas, chicken nachos, Bo pork enchiladas (which I got tonight - mmm!), Spicy Chicken wrap (fried tortilla and cheese sauce over the top!), and Cazuela al Horno - which is like a mexican lasagna, amazingness! There are so many other great things, I could go on and on... Most dishes come with refried beans and rice - which are better than other places. The beans are smoother and so flavorful and the rice is straight up rice with seasoning - no veggies and cooked perfectly. I like to mix my beans and rice, I don't know why, I just have always done it that way. Oh also, you get a free basket of chips and salsa after you order. The salsa is fire roasted, so it looks orange, but it is the best salsa I have ever had!

The RED MARGARITA! I'm not gonna lie, their margaritas are strong, but oh so tasty. I like the red margarita, it's made with pomegranate juice. I'm not sure if I have ever had any other drink there, but I'm sure they are great, too.

The service. I have been going here for years and they always have the same servers. They are super nice, check on you often, refill your drinks, and remember you! Our server tonight welcomed us back and said it had been awhile since she had seen us - which was true. My husband is also a food baby (he describes himself as this) and had a very specific request with his order. Since he worked in food service, he always apologizes before asking for things removed or substituted, but then still does it. ;-) Our server (I feel bad, I do know her name but can't think of it right now, I'm 95% sure it is Natalie) was all smiles and told him that his request was not at all unreasonable.

One more thing about the service - it is owned by Jesus and Tracy Rivera. They knew my friends because they went there so much and then met me because I started going there with my friends. Tracy and I became friends on Facebook. She then friend requested my husband (who wasn't my husband at the time) after I started bringing him there. Tracy will ask how we are doing and know various things about our personal lives such as birthdays and when we got engaged. It's awesome to know that the owners truly care about us and how we are doing!

Like I said, I have been going to Rivera's for years. I was introduced to it by my friend Kacie. Kacie and I (and others, Casey and Eric to name a few... ;-) have many memories of fun nights that have started by going to Rivera's first. We also did our own food challenge there. I'm not sure if they still have this, but Rivera's used to have fried habanero peppers stuffed with cheese sauce on their menu. If you don't know what a habanero pepper is - it is a super hot pepper! I think it is also called a ghost pepper. We each ordered one and challenged each other to finish it. We did it! Not to say that we didn't sweat, and have our eyes and nose run, but it was fun to try it. (by the way, I feel I ultimately won because it didn't make me sick later ;-)

Dredd movie review!i've been wanting to write on this for a while but always thought about writing at inopportune times.

i've also wanting to have a 'format' - something that will get me to write more - instead of writing whatever i think of when i have time, i want to write on a specific topic. i'm thinking my format theme will be over all 'entertainment' but probably more about theater - i LOVE theater - all kinds - whether it is movies, plays, musicals, etc - it doesn't matter, i enjoy it!

to start off - the hubs and i were talking about what we wanted to do for 'date' night - every saturday is usually date night where we try to do something special and spend time together. we were talking that we hadn't gone to a movie in a while and thought that sounded fun. however, when we looked through the list of movies out - they were all crap! i was thinking i the timothy green and curve movies looked decent and he mentioned resident evil or dredd. since we were super excited about either, we decided we would just go out to eat and possibly rent a movie or something... then our friend eric texted...

he asked if we wanted to go to dinner or a movie - we decided to go to jazz (we had a groupon from my brother and sister in law - thanks brent and tamika!). while there, i'm not sure how, but we settled on going to dredd, not only dredd, but dredd in 3D! so i am now going to pay extra to see a movie i was pretty sure i wouldn't like. however, i was enjoying hanging out with the guys, so i was willing to go...

(btw... i love jazz - i think it's super good - but the boys were not as big of fans as i am...)

so we head to aksarben cinema (my favorite movie theatre!). as we ordered our tickets, the lady who sells us the tickets tells us that she heard it was great! but she looks like she is 50 and i didn't really think it was her type of movie and somewhat called her out on that. she admitted she would never go see it... fabulous.

the movie was about a worn down america in the future. there are so many people that they build towns (blocks) up instead of out. there is much crime and those who enforce the law are called 'judges' - where they are the judge, jury, and executioners. judge dredd is assigned to work with a new rookie recruit who did not do well on her tests to become a judge but she is an amazing psychic, so they give her a chance. they go to answer a call to investigate three killings where the victims where on a new drug called 'slo mo', were skinned, and fell 100+ stories in the 'block' peach tree. they learn that instead of having rival gangs, one gang has taken over the entire block - led by a crazy lady named 'mama'. the judges capture one of the guys who skinned and killed the guys. because they captured the guy and were going to take him in for questioning, mama has the block on lock down - no one can get in or out. she also orders everyone to kill the judges. the rest of the movie is about them trying to stay alive and learn how mama became so powerful.

things i liked about the movie:

it didn't drag on - too much. it seems like a lot of newer movies seem like they are going to end and then keep going. this one didn't. it ended when it should have.

i didn't know any of the actors so it introduced me to some new folks

i loved hanging out with joe and eric :-)

the 3D effects were really good!

things i didn't like:

the rookie was supposed to be a powerful psychic - she used this to her advantage some times and at others i was questioning how she didn't know what was going to happen or who some of the people were

i never saw judge dredd's face - he always wore a helmet

i never learned exactly why/how mama because so powerful and crazy.

almost the whole movie was filmed in 'the block'. i got bored with the scenery.

it was too violent and depressing for me

there was no love story (sorry, that might be a spoiler)

alright, gonna try to write more - maybe i will live blog about the emmys tomorrow...

I can now rent movies and TV shows through my iTunes, watch YouTube, Flickr, or some sort of ESPN thingy. AND... access Netflix! Lucky for me, I have a very generous fiancé who has let me sign into his account and access his Netflix. I kinda think it has revolutionized my life. we went early to eat at goodnights pizza and hoped to get good parking - both of which happened! we were probably one of the first peeps going to gaga who went to goodnights before the show. however, the restaurant soon filled up with tons of glitter, wigs, leotards, spandex, and green. it was awesome people watching - if we saw all those peeps there, we couldn't wait until we got to the qwest to see all the costumes! I am obsessed with tiaras. If it were socially acceptable, I would totally wear one every day. They make me feel important and special. I used to wear one every year on my birthday, however, since I turned 30, I felt too old to wear them. But because I am showing you my over the top wedding ideas, I had to include them.

So, truth be told, I don't have an unlimited budget and what's really important that we have a smaller, intimate gathering of all those we care about. We want everyone to be comfortable (including us! :-) and have a good time. Honestly, I don't need or really want all that other stuff. I think I may come to regret it when I'm 80 if I go too over the top. As long as Joe's there, waiting for me at the end of the aisle, the other stuff doesn't really matter.

(go ahead and let the teasing begin for that last sentence ;-)

Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573964582215612698.post-45656490153328836642011-01-23T14:32:00.000-08:002011-01-23T19:02:10.470-08:00Wow - what a month!Ok, sorry I haven't posted in a while. So much has happened that I think I have been too overwhelmed to write...

Well, here's the big news (which I know everyone already knows) - I'm engaged!!! Joe had been hinting for quite a while that he this would probably happen soon. We are kind of big on dates and anniversaries, so I always thought he would do it on a special date that was important to us. So when he insisted that we go to dinner, just ourselves, on Jan. 16, I was pretty sure he was thinking of proposing. You see, Jan. 16th, 2009 was the day we first met in person. He met me and my friends out at the Upstream, where we had the usual awkward first conversation. Then as we were leaving, we ended up separating without getting a chance to say goodbye... I was a bit sad about this, BUT before I made it to the car, I heard Joe yell my name. I crossed the street back to the Upstream and met back up with Joe. He thanked me for inviting him. I thanked him for coming, and went in to give him a half hug - however he held out his hand to shake mine. My purse was in my right hand, so I had to awkwardly switch hands and shake his. We departed and I went back to Kacie's car. I remember telling her that I was hoping he and I could get together again. When I got home that night, Joe had emailed me (and it was late when I got home!) saying again what a nice time he had. The next day, he explained that he was moving and switching jobs, so was going to be pretty busy the next few weeks, but was wondering if I would wait and go out with him after he was all settled. Of course I agreed and we went out on our first date on Feb. 1. We sat, drank our drinks, and talked til we closed the place down. It was perfect! Two days later, Joe asked me to "go steady" with him. I was so excited! And that began our great romance...

Fast forward two years... Joe realized that I was catching on that he was thinking of proposing on Jan. 16th, and surprised me by proposing a day early. I don't want to give too much away but it was pretty brilliant. I really liked it, although it was very twisted and dark. It was about a girl, Nina (played by Natalie Portman), who is obsessed with being the perfect ballerina. She gets the lead part in Swan Lake but her inappropriate instructor is not happy with her as the Black Swan. She also has an overbearing mother who is living vicariously through her daughter. Trying to be the perfect dancer and perfect daughter lead Nina to become obsessive and paranoid - convinced the new gal, Lily (played by Mila Kunis), is out to get her role...

I was freaked out through out the last half of the movie - grabbing and squeezing Joe's hand and arm tightly, but that only added to the brilliance of the movie. If you prefer to sit still and not have fun when you go to the theatre, then you should NOT go to this show. However, if you enjoy Beatles music or just a fun time, then go out and see Yesterday and Today at the Playhouse. You get to request your favorite Beatles songs, bring in your drinks from the bar, encouraged to get out of your seat and dance, and even get to sing on the mic (well, I was one of the lucky few who did!). I love Beatles music, but I didn't even realize all the songs I knew or how much fun they were!

I went to this show after having an unusually stressful day at work. I was very crabby, but super excited to hang out with two of my favorite girlfriends, Casey and Kacie, for happy hour. Once I met them at the 1020 in Dundee, I totally left work at the door, and we had a fun time chatting, drinking good wine, and eating some yummy (however later learned somewhat potent) bread with garlic dip. Afterwards we went to the Glass Harmony Holiday Art Show/Sale. This was either the third or fourth year I have gone. I have bought glass ornaments in the past as gifts, but never bought one for myself. I decided to get one this year. I LOVE it! The Show/Sale just happened to be at Omaha Community Playhouse, and Kacie is a part of their buzz team, so she gets tickets to some of the performances there. She suggested since we would be there, that we all go. Unfortunately, Casey couldn't stay for the show, but hung out with us until the show was about to start.

Yesterday and Today was in the Howard Drew theatre, which is my favorite theatre. It is small and makes you feel intimate with the cast, but I don't ever feel cramped, which is good for my weird claustrophobia. It was decorated in 60's psychedelic themed props (see pics) and the musicians were dressed like the Beatles in Chuck Taylors. The main three guys are all brothers and they started the show as a tribute to their father and they reference him a lot in the show, which is sweet. One of the guys even has a bass violin thingy like Paul McCartney (I think that's who played that). All of them have kids named after the fab four, too.

Thanks Kacie for the ticket! BUT there are two things i enjoy about this place - their bacon and the variety of toppings. their fries are not the greatest, but i do think they are getting better than when we first started going there. they also have other sides, but i have never tried them.

smash burger - i enjoy the quality of the burger and the fact that they have guacamole as a topping and fried pickles, haystack onions, and veggie frites. their smash sauce and smash sides are definitely the best in town, but the price is a bit more expensive than other places.

five guys - i have only eaten here once and feel like i need to go back to give them a fair shot. i didn't really enjoy this place. i started off wrong by ordering a regular bacon cheeseburger, which has two burger patties. i am not a huge fan of a ton of meat - i enjoy a little meat and lots of fun toppings. they do offer a 'little' burger, which must be a one patty burger. when i got my burger, it was super greasy and i some how ran out of bun and still had burger and toppings left, so it was extra messy. also, their fries are no good. just bad. i do like that they have different toppings to put on your burger. but if i go back, i may seriously think about ordering a bacon cheese hotdog instead of a burger.

red robin - this used to be my favorite place - guacamole burger, fries, red robin salt, and ranch... yum, yum! but i think i just overdid it there, so i haven't really wanted to go there. it is a bit more expensive and you can't make your own burger, but they have a burger for everyone's taste.

well those are some of the burger joints i have been to. what about you? what place do you like or recommend? what don't you like?
Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573964582215612698.post-12898318784813255662010-11-28T18:31:00.001-08:002010-11-28T21:27:39.427-08:00Burlesque
I decided to try to start writing reviews of the movies I see... it's my blog, so why not?

Last night, my very sweet boyfriend offered to take me to see Burlesque - he had no desire to see it but knew I wanted to - what a guy!

Burlesque was pretty stereotypical - poor, young lady trying to get of her small town and make it big. I wasn't a fan of the opening part - pretty cheesy (and for those of you who know me, I enjoy a little cheese in my movies, but this was over the top, even for me). The young girl finds a burlesque shop on one of her first days, enters in, falls in love with the dancing and music, and wants to work there. Cher (owner of the club) won't really listen to her or give her a job, so Christina decides to wait the tables on her own. The bar tender digs her, so he lets her continue and she starts working there. Eventually Xtina is allowed to start dancing in the shows, only because Julianne Hough gets knocked up. Mean Kristen Bell doesn't like that everyone loves Xtina so much and tries to sabotage her show, but only makes her more in demand as she starts singing all the songs instead of lip syncing... The club is in financial hardship, but Cher doesn't want to sell to McSteamy... McSteamy digs Xtina, they hang out every once and a while, much to the dismay of the bar tender/roommate/Twilight guy. However, the bar tender/roommate/Twilight is engaged, but likes Xtina. He and his fiancé break up over the phone (she's in New York). So he and Xtina get it on that night and continue to. Fiancé shows up, says all these mean things about Xtina, she leaves, goes to Stanley Tudcci's (i have no idea how to spell his last name), some dude answers, he lets her in, she then gets a call from McSteamy, to whom she goes to. Twilight dude comes looking for her, she's gone, but Stanley Tucci realizes he's going to stop having one night stands and asks that dude to lunch. Xtina goes to McSteamy's and realizes he is going to build a 20 story building with windows where the Burlesque building is because it's the "best view on the Sunset Strip". Xtina figures out how to save the club, she makes up with vampire dude... all is good at Burlesque.

The movie was fun, but it was no Chicago or Rent (:-) by any means. My favorite parts were that Alan Cumming was in it and they had super sparkly, glittery, pearly, feathery costumes. Xtina's hair and weird chicken legs along with Cher's non-moving face were the worst parts. At one point, Cher was supposed to be crying and really upset, and you could hardly tell because her face didn't move!

I give the movie a C+. It's a day where we think about the good things in our lives. In honor of this holiday, I am going to share some of the things I am thankful for (these are in no particular order, just as they came to my head)...

1. A loving and supportive family. With my job, I get to work with and observe several different family systems and I have come to learn how truly blessed I am to have these loved ones in my life.

2. A wonderful, understanding boyfriend. He just gets me and I am so appreciative of that. I love him wholeheartedly.

3. My job. Not many people can say they love what they do, but I am one of those people!

4. My health. After the year I have had, you might not think I would be, but I have learned it could be so much worse and I am so thankful for healing.

5. Friends. I love that my friends and I don't do the "typical" things, but we are eccentric and eclectic and have SO MUCH FUN together! I can't stop laughing when I am with them.

6. Glitter and sequins - they always make me smile and feel better

7. Cookiefest - making cookies, drinking wine, and hanging out with my favorite people - nuff said!

8. The Olympics - although it's a competition, the idea of all these countries coming together for the sake of sportsmanship and get along (for the most part). Also, everyone's journey to making it to the olympics is so inspiring and interesting.

There is sooo much more, but this is just what I can come up with off the top of my head. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573964582215612698.post-89660243157879209962010-11-21T18:20:00.000-08:002010-11-21T19:17:55.524-08:00Christmas

oh snap - two posts in one day!!! how lucky can one be?!? or something like that... well, we made the cookies and drank the wine and had a grand ole time. i think stuffed crust pizza and the movie elf were also involved for the inaugural event. ;-) This was when the legend was born! Now, every year we get together - kacie has the ingredients and we bring the wine. ryan has joined our group and i think we invited matt after he married kacie (he wasn't invited prior to then, even though we were doing this at his home in his kitchen...). inappropriateness is not only allowed, it's expected and encouraged. there's usually something penis and boob related and ginger people doing explicit things to one another. we do not discriminate either, some of the ginger people lose a limb or get decapitated, but we still decorate them - only when they fall on the floor is when we bury them. by the end of the decorating, the lithuanian booze comes out and sometimes chairs get broken or eric passes out - all in the name of cookie making party! expect anything! can't wait for it again this year!
Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573964582215612698.post-23817928895981774522010-11-21T18:05:00.000-08:002010-11-21T18:20:31.091-08:00Holidaysdue to limited funds, i have decided to make most of my gifts this year. since i am pretty sure i only have one reader, i don't mind sharing what i am thinking about making...

i started out thinking that i could make bracelets for everyone, but that is a bit boring, and i don't think of myself as boring. so i did some research and found some fun angels i can make out of dishcloths. BUT then i started watching YouTube videos on how to make resin jewelry - which looks like it could be hard, but want to look more into it - i see this type of jewelry for sale all over etsy.com and at the afternoon. my only worry is that they recommend doing it outside due to the fumes, but hey, i have big windows! but i guess we will see if i can find all the items needed to make these creations and then see if they fit into my budget.

it's also very hard to find dignified homemade gifts for guys. they all look like things 5 year olds make. so i am not sure what to do for the guys in my life... if my faithful reader has any ideas, i would appreciate it!
Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09736006868470020038noreply@blogger.com1
